S5660XXKS5 Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread ROM for Samsung Galaxy Gio S5660

A new firmware for Samsung Galaxy Gio S5660 with build number S5660XXKS5 this ROM is packed in Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread with a build date of October 15, 2011. The CSC file is SER - S5660SERKS1, which is the default firmware code for Russia. But anyway a global version of Galaxy Gio may also use this ROM, the only tweak is to change the default language which is in Russian to any European region.

This ROM might be a developers beta release since it doesn't yet shows up from Samsung Kies official firmware update server. This is the second ROM released for Gio since from the first  Android 2.3.5 with build number S5660XXKS2 that was recently released last September. The baseband version still the same from previous 5660XXKS2, so the build number is the only got a change.  We also have many reports that the first release was facing a lot of  bug issues so hope this one might be the stabler one.

A brief report from previous XXKS2:
I've upgraded my Samsung Galaxy Gio from froyo to Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread S5660XXKS2 recently. But i'm facing serious crashes & reboots while turning my wifi on. Please help me as i can't access internet on my phone anymore. Please guide me if there is a solution or a newer version is going to be launched after fixing the issue?

S5660XXKS2 Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread for Samsung Galaxy Gio S5660 Update Firmware

The Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread firmware update for Samsung Galaxy Gio S5660 finally leaks online. SamMobile.com recently announced and released the said firmware update for Galaxy Gio. The firmware build number is S5660XXKS2 with CSC file S5660OXXKS2 with build date as of September 2011.
This is the first Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread firmware update for Galaxy Gio since from the previous released of S5660XXKQG which is 2.3.4. Some changes of this update are fixes and minor improvements and looks identical from 2.3.4.

firmware info S5660XXKS2 Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread for Samsung Galaxy Gio S5660
Test Result and Review
Here's the initial impression of the S5660XXKS2 came out on the basis of Android 2.3. 5 after successfully flash on Galaxy Gio.

1) Visual changes - The appearance is not changed, still the same status bar, the same will, in general, with the same as in previous version.

2) Interface - Here we can already catch a few changes. Effect of the circular paging desktops (that is, you can immediately with the latest desktop on the first pass). This fichu I've seen only on third-party launcher. For me, this feature has proved very convenient effect when paging vertical lists, Cyanogen mod. as for example in the settings or flipping up or down until it stops, then starts to glow screen in blue (as in Cyanogen mod). Here's a snapshot:
Glow effect of S5660XXKS2 Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread for Samsung Galaxy Gio S5660

Comes out of sleep as well as on the last Baltic-3 (that is, if the wake-body and immediately pull the slide unlock, it will be 5.7 seconds observed brakes, but if you pull the slide at once, but after a second 3-4, then no brakes .)  The interface was visually higher (again due to personal feelings).
3) Performance - 2.3.4. IMHO productivity increased slightly compared with 2.3.4.
Here are pictures:

Navigation settings of S5660XXKS2 Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread for Samsung Galaxy Gio S5660
Homescreen S5660XXKS2 Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread for Samsung Galaxy Gio S5660
Quadrant score of S5660XXKS2 Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread for Samsung Galaxy Gio S5660

Tested on a clean firmware

4) Media - In the media of any changes, too: the same gallery, the same music player. The only thing noticed is the fact that the video began to write better.

5) Energy consumption - While can not say anything, because  I just installed the firmware.

6) Communications - No wi-fi, no GPS, I have not tested and therefore can not say anything (but there is feedback that the GPS is working properly, and not as typical Baltic-3)

7) Sensors - Compass works.  Proximity sensor, with the same situation as in 2.3.4 (Baltic-3)

8) Stable Operation - No lockups, no reboot of all time use is not observed.

Conclusion: The major changes I discovered.  Same speed, same performance as in the past 2.3.4. You decide yourself.

A single packaged which most often pulled from the official Samsung Kies server, so flashing a single file which is more safe to do since it will not wipe the data stored into your device if you just handled it correctly.

1) Extract the download firmware files;
2) Run ODIN v4.42 on your desktop.
3) Click the OPS button then select and load the GIO_v1.0.ops file.

samsung galaxy Gio odin flashing android 2.3.4
If the flashing  successfully completes, the phone will then reboot... you may then unplug it from the PC.
You can confirm the newly downloaded firmware version name etc by typing **#1234#.

Then do a full reset by typing this Code *2767*3855# . Just make a back up copy first for it will wipe the data this time. Factory reset may help to gain a fresh firmware installed after installing.

In most cases some firmware after updating, you can get another language from other region on your device, this may happen if the firmware package comes with different CSC file and did not match to your region. But don't bother about it because you can manually change it according to your prepared language. You may just need to navigate the icon of Locale and text menu settings, then change it.

Also probably happen that the APN Settings will be cleared and an access to data services / MMS / Internet, will be lost, if this things happen you will need to re-configure the APN settings of you phone or ask it from your Service provider.
