Samsung Galaxy SL I9003 Gitaxian ROM Gingerbread based CUSTOM ROM

Here's another coolest custom ROM for Samsung galaxy S SL i9003 developed by Namalessat XDA-developer. This ROM reportedly work perfect as smooth as you never had before and been used by a lot Samsung Galaxy SL users over Europe.

Here's a word from the creator of this ROM:

Hello everyone!
Sorry if I have not yet released the new version of my ROM, but unfortunately I have to give my time to me and my family.

With this message I want to ask all possible help from you. Unfortunately I live alone and I also have to make the home so I kindly ask you to help me.

I am happy to help the people who owns the phone I9003, but I request to you that you have more time to compensate me for my shortcomings.

First of all thank those who these days are helping those who want to use my ROM in your phone, helping to install and remove the doubts that before installing my ROMs.

I want to change the name of the ROM because I do not hear me, but I think it of you all. You who believe in my potential. You who trust my work. You try that with your time and give suggestions. I chose the new name and I think you will like.

Gitaxian ROM

The name comes from the Gypsies, which means "people" in Latin (me being Italian I like the Latin) and I think it is a ROM based entirely on your thoughts and suggestions I think it's the right name for this ROM.

ROM is now seen that the people I ask you to help me in this huge project that requires a lot of time and energy.

I'm not good at English because I studied until the eighth grade so I do not have the knowledge to answer all your questions. Google Translator helps me but not enough. There are people, friends who help me by giving support and explanations and I would like to raise awareness of this process because it requires time and knowledge of life on Android phones. Each of you can help with guides, previews, tips and helping others.
One thing that gave me the sadness is little collaboration between developers of ROM. I gave my support to two ROM which I could make a difference, but unfortunately everyone pulls water to his mill. I think you phone users, others think their project. I am sad for what happened and having no support from them asking for help to you who have interest in owning a phone that works well and works the way you want.

I apologize again to dwell on but I am convinced that many of you will understand my state of mind and I will support this mission. Making our better phone!

I can not waste time guides, images and more, I need to concentrate on what you do not know. I therefore ask you to take care of what you can do, help others, give advice and guides to use for your ROM.

I preferred to give space to my thoughts and what I want to convey to you all because I think it is more important than the relationship between the developer and the user that the instrument.

We can try with this guide:

1. Install complete firmware XXKPE.
2. Install my rom in PDA section of ODIN. No need CFRoot, integrate in my rom.
3. When finish my rom go device in Recovery, you need to delete dalvik cache and cache (not need factory reset).

Using 1.3 since yesterday morning and everything works great. Battery life is very good with data connection always up (way more than a day of use).

  • Wifi and gps work perfect
  • camera works fine
  • the more i see the theme the more i love it
  • needed to push gmail to system apps to make it work, simply installed from market gmaps (i suggest to keep it in ROM most of users need them)
  • did not tweak anything about graphics performance
  • converted to ext4 (i suggest to make it default  )
  • pushed new market to system apps as also social hub and im (do not push email.apk from sgsII it FC)
  • installed Vlingo, now from market (it's the free version of the branded voicecommand of sgsII) and works great
  • installed flash player (i suggest keeping it by default) but sometime when i browse with firefox and even maxthon, it is not recognized it and they warn that a plugin is needed

Here's the firmware feedback from Misledz @XDA.

NOTE: As most of you think this is leaked, It has been discussed by members in a massive post count that it remains official and it is. You can tell by holding the power button and home button till the phone fades off to restart. When it does you can identify, Unknown Upload Mode means you are still under beta where as if the phone reboot's/shows a tiny computer with a phone icon means it's stable. Only leaks had the issues regarding this.

Sound: Sound remains the same, there is no real improvement towards this but however there is a kernel change, Hopefully in the upcoming months this could help add a support or open a window to our now ever so stable GB ROM. This includes Voodoo Audio support.

Graphics: No real boost or improvement rather there are some hotfixes, There have been some textures that have been fixed, on games such as Sacred Odyssey had texture issues regarding grass. However in this version there is no issue regarding that. Horsie runs fine and no issues. Happy day. However this also might also open a window to Voodoo Color. *Please research this for more info*

Response Time: Seems there has been some major fixes regarding response times. The phone tends to respond faster than it did previously. Seems there have been some RAM optimizations. All Animations have been enabled and I've loaded a heavily docked screen with icons. As some of you may not know that the more icons you have, the more sluggish your phone gets as the phone takes time to redraw/recache the icons present on your homescreen. I've experienced no issues whatsoever and the phone tends to swap between apps pretty fluidly. Tested this with contact list load times and a list of over 992 contacts loaded in 7secs. Good job Samsung. Previously it was about 15-17 secs. If you have realized the screen orientation responds much faster now aswell.

Vibration: This part is usually for women ifyouknowwhatImeanunlesstheyhaveotherusesforthisph one, but meh. There seem's to be a slight boost in intensity upon receiving SMS's in silent mode. Don't know if this is a big issue but sometimes I can't seem to feel my phone vibrate in getting SMS's. Now it seems to be slightly "Feelable".

Market: Old School boring one. tl;dr.

RON VS RAM: Once again, My fav showdown based on performance with LW and performance without LW.

With LW- Thou shalt be happy to know that the phone no longer lags with LW. There seems to be a stable and steady RAM usage and under 20 minutes of constant stress test and whipping, the phone has no RON issues. Loaded with widgets and apps and constant ways to slow down the phone, The lag seems bearable but then again, 7 pages worth of icons and constantly switching with LW didn't bring me much pain. Rather the phone handled it like a boss. Me Gusta.

Without LW- Pretty straightforward, There has been no issues so far, For all you TouchWiz fans, I've tested with LW and without LW the pinch gesture to see how far can I take it to lag and the phone swaps between them, slowly due to animation, but still smooth. Me Gusta!

Battery: Battery improvement has been looked into aswell. Apart from the annoying glitch where your battery is being recognized as < 30% after a reflash, The phone was left to a whooping 10% playing music and ofcourse with the Wi-Fi on, took a nice small nap and came back 20mins later to find out the phone was at 8%, Not bad, but generally not the best either.

EDGE/GPRS Battery life: You shall be glad to know that this too has been looked into, The ever so annoying issue on XXKPE where the battery had the tendency to overheat like crazy causing your phone in your pants to cook your crotch, well no longer. Turned off Wi-Fi and left it on 2G/3G from 8% battery and over 10 minutes it dropped to 7%. Overheat still remains but the battery drain isn't as harsh as XXKPE. Me Gustas Tu.

Keyboard: There seems to be less keyboard lag aswell. Stock keyboard is lag free as usual, Swift X Key's latest version has a few minor bugs but on speed typing craze I found no issues that was directly related to the phone.

Video: Video supports MKV format as posted earlier, Need I say more? FLV support is also included, F4V aka HQ FLV is supported aswell. I haven't checked if this was a supported file format earlier.

Camera: Picture's taken in the dark aren't as much of a greyscale oriented as it was previously, There seems to be better illumination now, Video records .29 seconds faster than it originally did. Stock gallery isn't that great but the touch response and pinch sensitivity has been improved at a decent rate. Photo loadup times have been increased aswell.

Overall Verdict: There were a few thing's I was happy and unhappy with this. Once again this version has more improvements than thing's that get me upset, there hasn't been issues regarding shutdown or random hang ups. There is the question though on Google Talk and Skype support if this will however once again HOG SYSTEM RESOURCES. Sorry for the caps as it was necessary. Old Market, No flyover or CRT makes this somewhat a dry release once again, Once again the root being a major issue.

Overall Overall: Worth the flash, But still needs work on SOC support, Wouldn't want to go through the hectic ROOT Exploit method as it's a hassle for some. If you prefer stock then this is the perfect one for you.

Then do a Factory reset procedure once the phone reboots..You may then confirm and check your newly installed firmware through your About Phone Settings.

Here's spacebar2011 from UK overview about this firmware:

Also, please do not come back on here with stuff like "this ROM, too many bugs, some fancy feature does not work and thus its crap". This is still a DEV ROM and it has bugs, that is expected. So do not moan about that. If you want a bug-free build (if that exists on any version of any OS..), flash one of the officially released ROMs and swallow the fact that you're not made for leaked ROMs.

Okay, rant over!
Now the feedback:

- First and foremost; more than 24 hours and no SOD with everything from data to Wi-Fi left on. No SOD in any sleep scenario, manual or timed out.
- Camera, video rec, playback etc. all works fine. No issues at all.
- Call quality is good.
- Kernel Panic appeared while rooting but nothing more than that.
- I do not use any 3rd party camera apps, so can't tell if they cause problems although ShopSavvy barcode scanner works fine.
- Can play 720p videos (seriously, do you really need to play full HD 1080p vids on a 4" screen?)
- I'm not into watching too many videos on my phone anyway, but mp4 and avi files that I do have on my SD played perfectly fine. I've developed the habit of converting videos to mp4 or avi to the phone's resolution before I transfer them to the phone, it saves memory and weeds out any possible playback issues while maintaining good video quality. (I wouldn't watch Transformers on this, would I?)
- Video calling on 3G works.
- Video calling on Skype not yet supported for this device, Galaxy S was added in the last update, so we might have it soon.. (yes, I'm talking about the latest version.. d'oh! )
- Wi-Fi working fine, no disconnections, signal is reasonably strong.
- HSDPA data working fine, there are disconnections sometimes but that could be an operator issue, not sure.
- Music via bluetooth works, doesn't stop when device sleeps.
- People with Market issues; did you do the utter stupid thing by restoring system apps (incl. Market) from previous backup? If yes, then please smack yourself in the face and reflash. If not, then just go to Applications>All>Market>Clear Data. Reboot phone and launch Market.
- Screw the default gallery and use Quick Pic, trust me, you won't look back!
- Do NOT long press power button, it still is a DEV ROM and Kernel Panic will appear. Just select reboot from the pop-up after pressing power button normally.
- Battery life is as good as Froyo if not better. No complaints.
- Phone is very responsive, smooth and more than 150MB free memory with tons of apps installed. Btw, I used Root Uninstaller to freeze annoying Samsung bloat (Daily News & Briefing, Aldiko, Layar etc.)
- Mobile AP works and can be found in Tethering under Wireless and Networks. (That wasn't tough at all!)
- KIES detects device fine (you know I don't care about that horrendous piece of software but yeah..).
- Both SD cards are detected on PC.
- SD read write speeds are impressive on the phone. I got 9.9 write and 20.5 read speeds on Antutu.
SD Tools gave 8.4 and 20.8 respectively which is still pretty impressive!
- Antutu numbers are attached.
