The firmware build number is P1000JPJPC witch a build date as of May 26 2011. Samfirmware

How to Manually Upgrade (via ODIN) Sprint Samsung Galaxy Tab to 2.3.4 Gigerbread Update

Some of Sprint's Samsung Galaxy Tab users experiencing an update error like attempting the "Update Firmware" but the Tab stays busy for a minute and then eventually stops with the following error message:

"The Firmware update could not be completed.  Please try again later.   If the problem persists, you may need to contact Customer Service".

"Error:  Connection Error"

and or when attempting the "Update Android" it will only shows: "Your system is currently up to date."

Others may also having trouble updating it via WI-FI since many users having a wi-fi only version, and can only updated via 3G while the WI-Fi is turned Off. So, it needs to turn off wifi, and use 3G to get the update.

This is originally posted by ktran1588 over XDA for some reason and a solution to those who are having trouble updating their Sprint Samsung Galaxy Tabs. This is also an option to those who bought a refurbished Sprint Galaxy Tabs that has a WiFi only version.

Warning: You will lose root on the tab, and there is not a solution to root Gingerbread yet...
Does applying it cause you to lose any apps or files on the tab? Make a back-up copy of all important files before proceeding.

First you have to have stock EB28 on the tab prior to the update.

Check the software version on your phone:

1.  From the Home screen, press Menu, then tap Settings
2.  Flick up to scroll down, then tap About Phone
3.  Software version is displayed under Baseband Version
4. Galaxy Tab shows like the following information:

Hardware version SPH-P100.08

Model number SPH-P100

Firmware version 2.2

Baseband Version S:P100.08 S.EB28

Kernel version 2.6.32.9

Build number SPH-P100.DJ30

If tour device firmware is not yet on EB28 follow these guide:

   1. Download the E24 flasher
   2. Find a copy of Odin (1.3 worked for me)
   3. Extract the flasher, look in \Models\Binary, strip the .MD5 extension from the file SPH-P100.EA24.SECURE.REV07-FULL_CL871413.tar.md5
   4. Load Odin
   5. Connect device via USB
   6. Reboot into recovery (power off, hold power and down volume keys or do a "adb reboot download")
   7. Select the newly renamed .TAR file in the PDA slot in Odin
   8. Select start (flashing should commence)
   9. Boot, then you will be prompt for EB28 update, allow the EB28 update to complete

Then follow these step to update to Gingerbread:

   1. Download the Gingerbread update (Special thanks to pvtjoker42 for this. Source)
   2. Copy the update_from_EB28_to_EF17.zip file to the root of your SD card, rename it to update.zip
   3. Reboot into recovery (power off, hold power and up volume keys or do a "adb reboot recovery")
   4. Use volume rocker to select apply update.zip (or whatever)
   5. Touch the home button to select

Guides: How to Restore/Install Back Original (Carrier/Providers) Stock firmware of Samsung Galaxy Tabs

Many users have been posting questions on how to install back the original firmware of their Samsung Galaxy Tabs. This guides may help to those users who unexpectedly messed up or bricking their tablets for some reasons.

As we have said that Samsung Galaxy Tabs comes with different firmware versions according to their country or region and carrier providers originated.

A number of new firmwares for the Samsung Galaxy Tab come with "signed / protected" bootloaders. These new bootloaders prevent you from flashing custom or otherwise unsigned kernels on the device. Trying to do so anyway will result in errors and usually requires you to re-flash your ROM completely.

Do not just flash any Stock Firmware that is Not Made For your Samsung Galaxy Tab. Read the Devs Guide Carefully Always ..

How to Fix Bricked (Unbrick) Samsung Galaxy TAB

Many users have been looking for answers if they messed up and bricked their Samsung Galaxy TAB. Today I will give you some hints on how to fix this problem.

Disclaimer: This is my own terms and personal brief explanation, just correct me and add suggestion if I missed up something wrong.

Okay let's tackle what your device problem is.

Is your Galaxy Tab already bricked?

Freeze or Hang on logo.
The phone can boot after pressing the power button but it stuck or freeze on LOGO or home screen and after that it doesn't work any further.

Crashing/Shutdown on logo or often restarted.
Some users they call this problem as boot looping, the device will just automatically shuts off again and again.
At this state the phone can still reaches into Download Mode, Charge Mode and Service mode. They called this problem as SOFT-Bricked. The phone is not already totally bricked on this state.

What about if the Phone doesn't turns On or Power UP is it already bricked?

Some other factors if the device will not power Up is due to battery failure, firmware failure and hardware failure cause by water damaged or accidentally dropped.

Bricked phones will not powering up if the firmware is totally corrupted or damaged. We do not use the term bricked if the phone is still powering up or boot up. We used the term Dead Boot Jammed.

But one thing to remember that the device will not turns ON if the battery is totally drained and the device won't show a battery icon when the battery charger is plug-in.

Hardware failure issue can only determine after checking or diagnosing the firmware.

So how to fix the problems?
If the phone still reaches up to Download Mode (Volume Down+Power Button) and Recovery Mode(Volume Up+Power Buttons), You can still fix the phone by flashing the right firmware again. Firmwares comes on different versions according to your Country or Region and Service or Carrier providers. If you flash a wrong firmware you will messed up again.

This steps below are hints on how to diagnose any so-called bricked problem by users:

Hang, Frozen, Crashing, Auto Shutdown, Often restated:
If your Tab experience hang, frozen or often restarted without doing anything on it or flashing any firmware, You may first try to wipe the data cache of your device and restore it to its original factory default settings:

They called it a Hard reset:
Turn off the phone then Press the Volume Up and Power Button, your device will then boot into recovery mode. Select the wipe data or factory reset option.
This sometimes help and fix the problem but not certainly very often. If the problem still continues then you may need to re-install (flashing) the firmware again.

Flashing the Firmware: This process will install a fresh firmware on the device by Using an Original STOCK ROM and ODIN flasher tool.

- Find and download the Right Firmware of your Galaxy TAB make sure that you have selected the correct firmware for your Region or Carrier.
You may find intructions over xda-developer by K0sh:

Galaxy tab Won't Power Up, Doesn't charge or show battery icon.

- Try to use another working battery first or let the charger plug-in for about 8 hours (standard) or less, as long as the battery have the right voltage to power up the phone.

- If the battery seems working or already tried a new one, this time
In this case you may consider that your TAB is already bricked (Dead Boot) or totally messed up. Flashing the firmware by using ODIN will not work this time, because you can't access the phone into Download mode or service mode.

So, is the phone will still can be fix?

Yes! if your device still at its warranty period, we advice that you may send it back to your Samsung sevice centers for repairs. There's is nothing on the web that may help you fix it by your own. There are also many 3rd party mobile phone technicians nearby that can help you recover your TAB just unless if you have already void the warranty of your device.

We will show how does it is going to be fix here, just to inform anyone else for curiosity matter.

If the you TAB is totally messed up, the only way to recover it is by using special tools and the process is a little bit complicated and time consuming.

So what tools needed?
When the phone's firmware is totally damaged, since you cannot use ODIN to install the firmware on it, you will need a tool that can force the device to make you access and install the firmware unto it again. This tools are like the production tool where your Tab are like at the state of factory production.

Okay, instead of using the standard method by flashing through ODIN on phones USB, We  used a tool by a way of JTAG flashing. The JTAG flashing needs a JTAG device and a software downloader tool to connect the phone and regain access and install the firmware on the phone again.

And doing this is a bit complicated because it will need to dis-assemble the galaxy TAB and solder some part of it to make a connection from the JTAG device tool to the phone.

The picture below will show which part of  the galaxy TAB PCB board where to regain a connection.
It is the JTAG pinouts, where service centers get access to restore the phones firmware.

This video is from Mobile Tech our colleagues based in USA will show you how does it been done to fix and unbrick the Samsung Galaxy Tab.

That's it for now, we will try to add more solution about this problem. You may add more additional info's and suggestion or even question on our comment form below.

Okay, this solution works if the LCD screen shows a dark screen but the phone is still turns on and can hear tones etc. The first thing comes in our mind is to replace the LCD screen module but still it display nothing.

If the LCD screen goes blank or black and can notice that some text or image shadows on the LCD screen it means that the backlight white LED on the screen is not working. The problem may lies either on the LED that is mounted on the back of the LCD itself  and or the showed components showed on the solution below.

To fix this problem more quickly you may first to replace the LCD screen module and or check the LCD LED driver components on the Samsung I5500 Galaxy 5 PCB board. 1. Visually check the LCD pin connector. Clean, rework and replace if necessary.
2. Check the VLED+ voltage, you can check around 26V on the capacitor.
3. If the voltage is missing or no readings, check the VBAT voltage 3.7 volts across the filter coil. check also that coil for possible open circuit or damaged.
4. If the VBAT voltage is okay. trace the VLED+ and VLED- connection line paths down the LCD pin connector.
5. Check, resolder and or replace the LCD LED driver IC if necessary.

Samsung P1000 Galaxy Tab USB Not Charging Solution

This is the hardware repair solution for Samsung Galaxy Tab P1000 if it doesn't charge. This may only works if the device still turns On and the battery is not fully drained or already weak or damaged. A fully discharge battery will unable to charge up, so ensure that the battery is still in working condition before applying this solution. You may also consider that the wall or dock connector charger is also working fine.

So, lets take a look how the troubleshooting flows on the Samsung Galaxy Tab Not Charging problem:

1. On the 30 pin dock connector the input charge voltage is on pin #7 and #8. You can check and read it using a multimeter while the wall or USB charger is being inserted. If the voltage is missing or no readings the possible faulty is the charger itself but if the voltage is okay proceed to step 2.

2. On the charger voltage detector chip Pin #6 and #7 check and read the VBUS output voltage. If the voltage is missing, check the chip for possible crack, open etc., rework or replace if necessary. If the voltage is okay proceed to step 3.

3. Check the VBAT(battery voltage) on the capcitor near the charger switching IC. If the voltage is missing or no readings the possible faulty is the charger switching IC. If the voltage is okay, proceed step 4.

4. Check the VUSB output voltage on the analog multiplexer IC which is around 5V up on the capacitor. If the voltage is missing, check the chip for possible damaged and etc. Replace if necessary.

Samsung Galaxy Tab How to Root Guide

Here'a are some steps and procedures on How to Root The Samsung Galaxy Tab.

Rooting the Tab opens up a world of possibilities that would otherwise be out of reach. Root access gives you complete control of the system, which means you can do much more with the device than Samsung and your carrier probably want you to do. It lets you install awesome root-only apps, uninstall apps that can't normally be removed, do complete backups (Nandroid), flash custom ROMs, apply themes, change boot animations, and more..

Rooting the Galaxy Tab Using Z4root:

There's more than one way to root the Galaxy Tab, but the easiest method is to use a one-click root app called z4root. One-click root apps aren't new (Universal Androot, for example, has been around for months), but z4root is what I used to root my Tab so it's what I'm recommending.

Here's how to use it to root the Galaxy Tab:

1. Download z4root from Android Market (direct link) and install it.

Z4root-qr

2. Enable USB debugging on your Tab by pressing the Menu button then tapping Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB debugging.

3. Open z4root and press the "Root" button.

4. Don't panic when the Tab restarts. It's supposed to do that.

When it's fully booted, you won't get any kind of confirmation of your success. Everything will look exactly the same. Open z4root again, though, and you'll see this:

Rooting the Galaxy Tab Using Super One Click:

Requirements:
  • Download KIES Software downloaded from here
  • Download SuperOneclick from here

Procedure:
  • Connect Galaxy Tab to the computer and sync with KIES once, with debugging mode disabled
  • Disconnect from Computer
  • Enable debugging mode (Settings > Applications > Development > USB Debugging)
  • Connect again to PC but click on home button so that you do not connect to KIES this time
  • Launch the SuperOneClick.exe program which you have downloaded above
  • Click on root and wait for some time
  • That’s it your tab has root access now!
Have fun!
